As smart device designs get thinner and bezels disappear, aesthetic appearance increases, but their resistance to physical impacts decreases. More than 70% of the cases coming to device repair services consist directly of screen, inner panel (LCD/OLED), or touch breakages caused by drops and impacts. Today, where screen replacement costs almost approach the price of a new device, taking precautions against screen breakages has become a mandatory investment.

Is Gorilla Glass Enough on Its Own?

Manufacturers use glass that has gone through special chemical processes, such as Corning Gorilla Glass or Ceramic Shield, to increase the resistance of screens against scratching and breaking. While these technologies do a great job against scratches (keys, coins), they cannot absorb the shock wave inside the device in corner impacts against hard surfaces like asphalt or concrete. A crack is inevitable.

How to Choose the Right Screen Protector?

Simple gelatins sold in the market only prevent hairline scratches; their shock-absorbing features are zero.

• Tempered Glasses: These are glasses strengthened by chemical and thermal processes. Its main logic is to shatter itself instead of the main screen in a severe impact, absorbing the impact energy. When buying, those with a 9H hardness rating should be preferred.
• Hydrogel / Nano Films: They have a flexible and thin structure. They fit the screen perfectly and adhere excellently to curved edges. They do not shatter, but they do not have as high an impact absorption power as hard tempered glasses.
• Matte and Privacy Glasses: These are robust protectors with extra features that prevent light reflection or darken the screen when viewed from the side.

Another element as important as a screen protector is the choice of case. "Shockproof" (shock-absorbing silicone/rubber corner) cases with edges at least 1-2 millimeters higher than the screen level (lip) prevent the screen from touching the ground even if the phone falls face down.

Remember that when you buy a case or screen protector for your device 50-100 TL cheaper, you are actually taking a risk of thousands of liras. High-quality protective equipment prevents the device from slipping from the hand, disperses the impact, and minimizes your chances of going to technical service.
