High Performance Means High Heat

Next-generation game consoles (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X) have revolutionized the gaming world thanks to 4K resolution, Ray Tracing, and ultra-fast SSD architectures. However, this massive APU (Processor+Graphics Unit) architecture, capable of trillions of operations per second, releases an enormous amount of heat. The Liquid Metal Revolution

The most widely talked about step in Sony's PS5 architecture was using Liquid Metal instead of traditional thermal paste to provide heat transfer between the processor and the heatsink.

• Why Liquid Metal? Although traditional thermal pastes conduct heat well, the thermal conductivity of liquid metal is much higher than standard pastes. This ensures that the heat accumulating on the APU is instantly transferred to the giant copper heatsink block.
• Application Difficulty: Since liquid metal conducts electricity, if it leaks out of the processor, it will cause a short circuit on the motherboard. Therefore, it is trapped using very special insulating sponges and patented protective shields.

Vapor Chamber Technology

Xbox Series X, on the other hand, preferred Vapor Chamber technology by designing the case volume with a vertical chimney logic.

• Working Principle: This flat copper chamber, vacuumed inside and containing a small amount of special liquid, evaporates the liquid inside when exposed to heat, spreads the heat to the surface, condenses back into liquid when it cools. This cycle ensures that heat is evacuated at tremendous speed.
• Whisper-Quiet Fans: Both consoles offer an incredibly quiet gaming experience thanks to their aerodynamically designed large-diameter fans, despite operating at high RPMs.

The most important advice for users: Never block the air intake and exhaust channels of your console. Narrow TV units can create hot air pools around the device, rendering even these massive cooling systems helpless.
